Chocolate Chip Cookies
Cookies... good for the soul.
Out of everything that I bake, I would have to say that I have chocolate-chip cookies down pat. If you have been to my house in the past year, you know there are always cookies on deck. There is something about the way that a chocolate chip cookie tastes right out of the oven. The warm melty chocolate, the crisp outside of the cookie, and the soft inside. Pair it with a glass of milk and call it a day. Chocolate chip cookies have always been my favorite "dessert" or snack for as long as I can remember. I used to get so excited when I would come home from school and my mom was baking homemade chocolate chip cookies. My grandmother, mom mom, always had cookies at her house, which make the memories of her kitchen that much sweeter. This past Christmas, my mom passed down my grandmother's cookie mixing bowls to my sisters and I. It was a bitter sweet moment, knowing that she was no longer here, but that I would now be able to whip up her famous chocolate chip cookies in the bowl that she did for so many years.
Here is mom-mom's chocolate chip cookie recipe (aka, the perfect chocolate chip cookie):
Preheat oven to 375.
Combine flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl. Set aside. Beat butter, white sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla in large mixing bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips.
Grease cookie sheet with a spritz of Pam (or other non-stick spray). Drop cookie dough onto sheet by tablespoon. Bake for 9 minutes. Cool on baking sheets then remove to wire rack or plate, whichever you prefer. Grab a glass of milk and go to town :)
Last night, I had the pleasure of baking cookies with my 3 year old niece, Kylea. My sister, Jennifer, and Kylea came to Charleston on a whim to visit me and my other sister, Kasey, who also lives in Charleston. Day. Made. Kylea always gets really excited when you give her a job in the kitchen. She loves to help. It made my day seeing how happy she was putting the dough on the cookie sheet (and eating it too!) We are all guilty of that. If I had to state my guilty pleasure, it would definitely be eating the cookie dough.
Passing down traditions one generation at a time :)
