Pie
Me oh my
I love pie - (from the movie "Michael" soundtrack)
For those of you that have seen the movie, "Michael", with John Travolta, this song will be stuck in your head for the rest of the day, and maybe even tomorrow. You're welcome.
I have just begun to dig into the homemade pie-baking world. So far, apple has been my specialty. Turns out, making a pie is a lot of work. ( I decided to skimp out on making the dough because I simply didn't have the time, and bought the Pillsbury pre-made pie crust, which works wonderfully).
Here is the recipe that I used when making this delicious apple pie:
1 bag gala red apples
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup all purpose flour
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
1/2 stick of un-salted butter
1 box pre-made Pillsbury pie crust
1 teaspoon salt
Tin Foil
Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Peel and slice the apples. Set aside.
Brown butter in a pan, add sugar, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, and flour until caramel is bubbling. Toss apples in mixture. Cook for 5 minutes on medium heat.
Put the bottom pie crust in your pie pan, and "fork" the edges to seal the crust into the bottom of the pan. Add the apples. Take excess caramel from pan and drizzle over apples. Take the top crust, (you can either cut it into lattice strips and weave, or lay on top and cut slices, up to you) and seal with fork on edges. Cut away excess dough from the edges with a sharp knife. (You can toss the dough, or you can roll it back into a ball, flatten it with your rolling pin, and cut designs to add to the character of your pie).
Cover the edge of your pie crust with thin strips of tin foil. (This ensures that the crust browns instead of burns) Bake the pie on 425 for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees, and bake for another 45 minutes.
Once the filling is bubbling and the pie crust on top is browned, take the pie out, and let cool. Enjoy!
